Paper abstract: The Fractional Order Controller (FOC) has found wide acceptance and applications over conventional Integer Order Controllers (IOC). Hence these are appealing to practical engineers for many practical control problems. As major advances have been made in this area of Fractional Calculus (FC), it is now more convenient to represent the systems by their real order. FOC has been designed for various real time processes and results obtained through various responses are compared with conventional IOC in order to justify its robustness. To show the efficiency of the designed controller, three case studies are taken. Analysis of various response curves for both IOC and FOC gives an inference that the FO-PI controller provides efficient performance in terms of better settling time and peak overshoot and minimum ISE and IAE.
